Nesting Bird Surveys

The nesting season varies depending on species and also weather conditions, although it is commonly believed to peak between March and September. Therefore, during this time any works that may impact nests need to be preceded by a survey to identify any nests present.

Birds are adaptable and therefore there is a species of bird that will nest in most habitat types, including open ground, arable fields, grassland, scrub, trees and even built structures such as buildings, gantries and bridges. Therefore, a nesting bird survey is a safe option ahead of any works in the nesting season.

Where nests are found the nest, and a suitable standoff around the nest, will need to remain undisturbed until the young have fledged from the nest.
