A Preliminary Roost Assessment (PRA) was required to support the planning application for renovation works to a residential property at Tyn y Gongl on Anglesey.
Switch Ecology were commissioned to carry out the initial PRA of the building, which identified occasional roosting opportunities around the building. The survey was followed up by bat activity surveys during the peak survey season, which identified pipistrelle (Pipistrellus sp.) utilising several areas of the building as a day roost.
A mitigation strategy was prepared to support the planning application for the renovation works and on receipt of the planning permission a Natural Resources Wales (NRW) licence application was prepared and submitted.
Upon receipt of the NRW licence Switch Ecology went to site to supervise the roof strip, in line with the methodology outlined in the NRW licence. Works are ongoing to complete the renovation, which will include features to provide opportunities for roosting bats in the building on completion of the works.
