Holt Lane, Liverpool

Planning permission was being sought for the re-development of an industrial site in Liverpool.

The surveys commenced with a Preliminary Ecological Appraisal (PEA) of the site, which identified the habitats present and classified them using UKHab classifications. The survey also looked at the presence or absence of protected or notable species on the site, including a data search with the local ecological records centre.

On completion of the site survey a comprehensive report was prepared outlining the findings from the survey and making appropriate recommendations. The report included a habitat map showing the extent of the habitats present on the site and target notes outlining key ecological receptors.

Alongside the PEA report a DEFRA Metric V4.0 was completed for the site. The baseline biodiversity units were calculated based on the findings of the survey with the post intervention habitats assessed from landscape plans for the site. Once the initial figures had been prepared discussions were had over ways to improve the biodiversity units on the site and ensure that the development meets the 10% gain requirements.
