Planning permission was being sought to make alterations to a large school site in Manchester. Steven was commissioned to carry out a Preliminary Ecological Appraisal (PEA) of the site to provide supporting information for the planning application.

Steven carried out a desktop data search for existing records of sites and species within 2km of the site with the Greater Manchester Records Centre (GMRC) ahead of the site survey commencing.

The PEA was then carried out with all habitats on the site being classified using UKHab classifications. The survey included detailed Preliminary Roost Assessments (PRA) of the buildings and trees on the site as well as a Habitat Suitability Index (HSI) assessment of the accessible ponds both on site and up to 500m into the surrounding area.
