Celynog Cottage

Planning permission was being sought for the construction of a new residential dwelling on the footprint of an old demolished cottage at Llandrynog in Denbighshire.

Switch Ecology was initially commissioned to carry out a Preliminary Ecological Appraisal (PEA) of the site to assess the impact of the proposed development. The survey identified records of previous badger exclusion works on the site and the presence of existing badger setts on and around the site.

Switch Ecology subsequently carried out an extended badger survey of the site and the surrounding area, to establish how badgers were utilising the site and drew up plans for habitat mitigation to offset the losses caused by the development.

A Natural Resources Wales (NRW) licence was then applied for and the badger sett on site was excluded to allow the development to commence.
